The Concept of the Duolo
In the Spanish language, my native tongue, the ending of a word carries gender. The traditional word "doula" ends with a feminine "a." I intentionally changed that "a" to a masculine "o" to create the term Gender Transition Duolo. Just as a traditional doula guides individuals through profound life thresholds, I stand by your side as a trusted guide through your own sacred masculine rebirthing process. My birth name gendered me as Alejandra, but my true self has always been Alejandro.
My Journey to Authenticity
Your authenticity is a journey, not a race. My own North Star guided me patiently, leading me to begin my social, medical, and legal name transition in my mid-thirties. I have walked this exact path, navigated the hurdles, and experienced the profound liberation of living truthfully. Beyond my own transition, I bring three years of experience as a bilingual peer support operator at Trans Lifeline, where I supported trans individuals as well as their significant others, friends, families, and allies in navigating their shared journeys. I bring this deep, lived and professional expertise to our sessions, offering zero judgment, complete confidentiality, and absolute empathy for late-bloomers and all transmasculine individuals.
